The Minister of Health, Prof Mohammad Ali Pate, has assured that the federal government is committed to transforming the nation’s health sector.
Pate stated this during an event to mark the first anniversary of the official commissioning of the permanent site of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi in Anambra state, on Tuesday.
He stated that the movement of NAUTH to its permanent site was part of the government’s efforts to ensure the Tinubu-led administration delivered on its mandate.
He said, “The health sector is undergoing transformation under the able leadership of the Tinubu-led administration. The administration is focused on improving the health of every Nigerian.
“Such transformation is evident in the area of infrastructure, state-of-art equipment and quality health services to save lives and prevent diseases.
“Health is wealth. Without health, you can’t work, school, engage in activities. This is the reason Mr. President is investing heavily in the health sector in collaboration with all segments of the society.”
He assured the hospital staff, university community and the people in the state of continued support to improving the health of the citizens.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH, Prof Joseph Ugboaja, called for assistance from the federal government to help realise their vision and 10-year strategic development plan designed in lifting the institution to compete globally with institutions in the sector.
Ugboaja stated that the vision of the institution was to rank among the top three health facilities in Nigeria by 2030.
He noted that infrastructural and developmental facilities within the institution would be realised through the 10-year strategic plan anchored on nine pillars.
He said: “While management has completed well over four kilometers of roads, there’s need for more internal roads, security cameras, solar lights to cover the estate.
“We also appeal to the Minister for health to facilitated approval for the waiver to recruit more staff into the institution.”
