The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed an entreaty challenging the acquittal of Adeyemi Ikuforiji, erstwhile Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, connected wealth laundering charges. Ikuforiji and his erstwhile aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, were initially charged successful 2012 with a 54-count complaint involving N338.8 cardinal successful wealth laundering.

The EFCC's entreaty argues that the proceedings tribunal erred successful its judgment, specifically successful respect to the thresholds for transactions and the acceptance of currency payments without going done fiscal institutions, contrary to the Money Laundering Acts of 2004 and 2011. The committee contends that the proceedings justice ignored grounds presented during the trial.

The lawsuit has undergone aggregate ineligible proceedings. Initially, Ikuforiji and Atoyebi were arraigned connected March 1, 2012, connected a 20-count complaint bordering connected misappropriation and wealth laundering. They were granted bail, but the lawsuit was reassigned to Justice Ibrahim Buba, who discharged the duo connected September 26, 2014.

However, the EFCC appealed, and the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court ordered a caller proceedings successful November 2016. The Supreme Court aboriginal upheld this decision, sending the lawsuit backmost to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment.
